A charge from GUMRD.COM on your statement

GUMRD.COM is Gumroad, a site where independent creators sell digital products and memberships. The name after GUMRD.COM* is the creator you paid. You can search for the charge at gumroad.com/charge, and cancel a membership from the link in your receipt.¹²

What it looks like on a statement

Gumroad publishes the code that writes its receipts, and the receipt says: "The charge will be listed as GUMRD.COM* on your credit card statement."⁶ In the same code, the text after the asterisk is the creator’s name or username, cut to fit.⁷ A public record shows the plain form: the City of Godley, Texas, lists a $75.00 payment to GUMRD.COM on 10 August 2023.⁹ An older form was Gum.co: two people on a phone-number lookup site in 2021 and 2022 wrote that charges they did not recognise, $5 and $20, were "listed as Gum.co".¹⁰

A charge of $0 or $1 that disappears is not a purchase. Gumroad says it asks your bank for a $0 or $1 authorization to check the card, reverses it straight away, and that it can take "a few minutes to a few weeks" to vanish from your statement.⁴ If the amount is a little higher than the price you saw, Gumroad says most purchases are processed in US dollars and your bank may have added an international transaction fee.⁵

How to find the purchase and cancel it

1. Search your email for a Gumroad receipt Gumroad’s first advice is to check your inboxes for receipts from Gumroad.¹ Also search for the creator’s name after GUMRD.COM* and the amount. If you paid with PayPal, Apple Pay or Google Pay, check the email linked to that account: Gumroad says those are "the usual culprits" when a receipt went somewhere unexpected.⁸
2. Search for the charge on Gumroad Go to gumroad.com/charge. If it finds nothing, Gumroad asks you to contact it with the last 4 digits of the card, the card type, its expiry date, and the charge amount, currency and date. For PayPal, send the PayPal Invoice ID instead.¹
3. Cancel the membership Open your latest receipt and click "Subscription settings" or "Manage membership", then "Cancel membership". If you have a Gumroad account, you can do the same from your Library.² Gumroad says "Cancellation will not lead to an automatic refund", so ask for the refund separately.²
4. Ask the creator for a refund, then Gumroad Reply to your receipt email to reach the creator. Gumroad says it cannot refund straight away "unless the charge was fraudulent or a duplicate". If the creator has not answered within 30 days, write to Gumroad with proof that you tried, and it will contact the creator and refund you "if they continue to be unresponsive".³
5. If nobody helps, or you never agreed to it, go to your bank Tell your card issuer you want to dispute the charge. Bring the statement line exactly as printed, every date and amount, and what you already tried. Ask what its deadline is for disputes. It depends on your bank, the card network and the reason. Thirty days waiting for a creator can eat into it, so ask early.

Is Gumroad a scam?

No. Gumroad, Inc. is a San Francisco company, and its terms say it is "the merchant of record" for what creators sell.¹¹ A GUMRD.COM charge is usually a real purchase, a membership that renewed, or something another person bought on your card.

Support is another matter. On the Better Business Bureau’s page for Gumroad, an archived copy from March 2026 shows 40 complaints, 37 of them marked "Unanswered". In one, filed in July 2025, the buyer says they were charged $37.00 twice for the same product, that Gumroad support confirmed the duplicate, and that no refund had been issued.¹² That is the buyer’s account, not our finding. If you are sure nobody you know made the purchase, treat it as unauthorized and call your bank.

Other names you might see

Gumroad is one of several companies that sell on behalf of the people who make things. LEMSQZY* is Lemon Squeezy, PADDLE.NET is Paddle, SQ * is Square, and for games and in-game items, XSOLLA is Xsolla. All of them are in the table of unfamiliar charges.
