Many charges that look like fraud are a real purchase billed under another company’s name. Small software makers, online shops and market stalls often let a bigger company take the payment, and that company’s name goes on your statement. Find the start of your statement line below. Each page tells you who it is, how to find what you bought, how to stop it, and how to dispute it.

If your line is not in the table
- Search your email for the amount
Search every address you use, including spam, for the exact amount (for example
12.99) and for each word on the statement line. The receipt names what you bought. - Ask the people who share the card Someone else who uses the card may have made the purchase or started a trial with it.
- Call your bank Ask your card issuer about the charge. If nobody you know made the purchase, ask the bank to dispute it, and ask what its deadline is. It depends on your bank, the card network and the reason, and missing it can end your options.
