An AT&T payment on your statement

ATT* BILL PAYMENT, AT&T MOBILITY EPAY, AT&T PAYMENT and AT&T PREMIER EBILL are payments on an AT&T bill: wireless, internet or a business account. Often it is AutoPay taking the bill on its own. The name can change from one month to the next while the bill stays the same.1

The short answer

Sign in to AT&T and open your bill and payment history. If the payment is wrong, use “Report a payment issue” there. AT&T says it can take up to 5 business days to hear back, and to keep paying the bill meanwhile.2 If nobody in your household has an AT&T account, tell your bank.

What it looks like on a real statement

The State of Delaware publishes every purchase its employees make on state cards, with the merchant name as the bank received it. When we counted on 9 October 2026, AT&T phone and internet payments made 2,080 lines from 40 state offices and schools, from June 2017 to August 2026. The data writes “&” as “And”, so AT&T appears as AT And T.1

The same bill, four names in five years

The Department of Safety and Homeland Security’s Communications Section pays AT&T on the 4th of every month (a few times on the 5th): one amount until August 2021, two amounts since. The amounts barely move, but the name does:1

The monthly AT&T payments of one state office, 2021–2026
Months What the statement said Amounts
to August 2021AT&T*BILL PAYMENT$367.61 (one payment) in August 2021
September 2021 to January 2022AT&T MOBILITY EPAY$339.21 and $7.12
February 2022 to April 2026ATT* BILL PAYMENT$338.92 and $7.12 at the start; $252.19 and $4.36 at the end
May 2026 to August 2026AT&T MOBILITY EPAY$252.17 and $4.36

Other offices changed at the same points. Six more state offices went from ATT* BILL PAYMENT to AT&T MOBILITY EPAY in April to July 2026. Business accounts did the same with their own names. The Department of Technology and Information paid as AT&T PAYMENT until 23 March 2026 and as AT&T PREMIER EBILL from 22 April 2026.1 So a name you have not seen before is not, by itself, a new account. Check the amount and the date against your bill.

Two AT&T lines on the same day are not always a double charge. The office above pays two separate amounts every month on the same date. Each AT&T account is paid separately, so two accounts on one card make two lines.

When AutoPay takes the money

AT&T says: “AutoPay methods using a credit card will have an earlier draft date. If you use a debit card or bank account, it will draft closer to your bill due date.” You can pause AutoPay for one month, but not if the payment is due within the next two days, and you still have to pay by the due date. Pausing for more than a month may remove AutoPay and its discount.3

Will AT&T give the money back?

In the state’s data there are 4 AT&T refunds among 2,080 lines, all under AT&T DATA and all from 2017 to 2019 ($30.00 three times, $34.99 once).1 That fits a credit going onto the next bill instead of back to the card, but the data does not say why.

VESTA *AT&T: prepaid phones

VESTA *AT&T (to December 2018) and VESTA *AT&T PREPAID (January 2019 to November 2021) are filed in the state’s data under phone service. Vesta is a payment company for phone carriers. Its website shows AT&T’s logo among its partners.5 The state’s cards show no Vesta line after 2 November 2021.1

An AT&T Prepaid phone is paid in advance, by card, refill card or AutoPay. AT&T’s prepaid page says card payments have a $10 minimum. Paying by the automated phone line or an agent costs $5. You can call 611 from the prepaid phone or 800.901.9878 from another phone.6

AT&T lines that are not the phone company

42 lines in the state’s data start with AT&T HOTEL, AT&T ROOMSDEPT or AT&T EXECUTIVE. They are filed under hotels and restaurants, not phone service, so they are a hotel stay or a meal.1 Names that only begin with the letters ATT, such as ATTAINMENT COMPANY, are other businesses.

How to find it and stop it

  1. Find the payment in your account Sign in and open your bill and payment history. If you have more than one AT&T account, use Switch account and check each.2
  2. Stop AutoPay if you want to pay yourself Go to AutoPay and turn it off. AT&T says this also removes any AutoPay discount, and some accounts must keep AutoPay because of their service or credit status.3
  3. Report a wrong payment Under the bill history, select Report a payment issue, pick the issue type and upload what you have.2
  4. If it is not your account, go to your bank Ask your bank to dispute the charge and ask what its deadline is. It depends on the bank, the card network and the reason.

Is this a scam?

The names are real: the state’s cards paid 2,080 of them.1 A real name does not make every charge yours. A family member’s line, a business account paid with a personal card, or someone paying their own AT&T bill with your card number all look the same on a statement. If a text or email about an AT&T payment looks wrong, AT&T asks you to forward texts to 7726 and emails to abuse@att.net.7

Why this page is on a site about held money

This site records payment companies that hold back money that belongs to someone else. AT&T is not in the incident record; the closest part of this page is the 45-day refund wait on closed accounts. Other phone and internet bills show up as VZWRLSS* and COMCAST / XFINITY; utility bills paid through a payment company as SPI*. Other lines are in the table of statement names.
