A charge from CANVA* on your statement
CANVA* followed by a number such as I04981-33440100 is Canva,
the online design website. Its paid plans renew by themselves every month or every year, and
a free trial that was started with a card turns into a paid plan unless it is cancelled
first.13
The number changes with every charge; in Delaware’s card records it matches the date of the
charge.4
Sign in at canva.com, open Settings, then Billing, and cancel the plan there. That stops the next charge, not this one: Canva’s terms say a cancelled plan runs to the end of the billing period and that fees already paid are not refunded "except where required by law".23 Ask anyway, and quickly. Delaware’s card records show Canva refunds, five of them in full within 26 days of the charge.4
What it looks like on a real statement
Canva’s help pages do not say what its charges look like on a statement. The State of Delaware publishes every purchase its employees make on state cards, with the merchant name as the bank received it. When we counted on 3 October 2026 it had 865 lines for Canva, from 17 August 2017 to 22 August 2026, bought by state departments, school districts and colleges.4
| What the statement said | Lines | When |
|---|---|---|
CANVA* I04981-33440100 | 672 | 14 July 2021 to 22 August 2026, still in use. An I, five digits, a dash and seven or eight more digits, different on every charge |
CANVA* 02425-12884854 | 124 | 27 March 2019 to 20 May 2026: the same without the I. 101 of the 124 are from before July 2021 |
CANVA 01907-3198156 | 24 | 17 August 2017 to 6 February 2019: no star |
CANVA FOR WORK YEARLY, CANVA* PRO YEARLY | 22 | August 2017 to August 2019 only, with MONTHLY for two lines |
PAYPAL *CANVA, PAYPAL *CANVAPTYLIM | 16 | January 2021 to May 2026: Canva paid through PayPal. Canva Pty Ltd is the company named in Canva’s terms of use3 |
Seven more lines read CANVA.COM, CANVA US INC.,
CANVA or CANVA* PAAAAG4PXPZYXB2A. Your bank may shorten the line or
add a town or phone number to it. The Delaware data shows posted charges on one set of
cards.4
What the number after CANVA* tells you
The five digits before the dash count days from 1 January 2013. In Delaware’s data, 820 Canva
lines carry such a number; in 759 of them it is exactly the number of days from 1 January
2013 to the date of the charge, and in 27 more it is one day off. CANVA*
I04981-33440100, for example, was charged on 22 August 2026, which is day 4,981.4
A refund comes back under the same line as the charge it undoes. Every numbered refund in the data carries the number of a charge to the same office, and the five digits give that charge’s date. So if a refund and a charge on your statement show the same number, they belong together.4
When you report a charge, Canva asks for the "Invoice number, Apple receipt ID, or Google order number", the amount and the date.1 Canva does not say whether the number on your statement is the invoice number, so give the amount and the date as well.
Why it came when you did not expect it
Canva’s own page on unfamiliar charges lists the usual reasons. A free trial ended: "If you don’t cancel before your trial ends, you’ll be charged for the renewal". A trial started without payment details ends by itself without a charge. You have more than one Canva account, for example one made with an email address and one made with Google or Facebook. Canva charges "a day before your billing date", in GMT. Someone on your team used the saved card, or a new member joined the team. Inviting someone to a Pro plan turns it into a Canva Business plan, priced as one. A purchase of Affinity, the design app Canva owns, is also billed as Canva.1
For teams, Canva’s terms add that seats added during an annual plan are billed "every 3 months after the start date", and that removing seats already paid for brings no refund.3
Why it came twice, or on a new card
Canva says that if a renewal payment fails, "we'll make a few attempts to charge your registered payment method within 16 days", and a late success can look like a second bill when it lands near the next billing date. It also says that card networks and banks "may keep recurring subscriptions active, even if the physical card is canceled or expired", through automatic card-update services. Cancelling the old card is therefore not a reliable way to stop a Canva plan.2
The $1 charge
When a card is added or changed, Canva places a check of "usually around $1". Canva says it "isn’t an actual payment", that it is reversed automatically, and that the money comes back within 7–10 banking days.1 Delaware’s data has 21 posted Canva lines of $1 or $2 between March 2018 and November 2025. Three have a matching minus line on the same day; the data does not show the other 18 coming back.4 If yours has not gone after ten banking days, Canva asks you to contact it.
How to find it and stop it
- Find the account Search your email, including spam, for "Canva" and for the exact amount. Check every email address and every Google, Facebook, Microsoft or Apple login you might have used. A school, a club, a business or a family member may have used your card. If the plan was bought in the App Store or Google Play, check your purchase history there.12
- Cancel the plan In Canva, go to Settings, then Billing. Under Subscriptions you see whether that account has an active plan, and cancel it there.2 Canva’s terms say the plan ends at the end of the period already paid for.3
- Ask for the refund Use the "request a refund" link on Canva’s page about unfamiliar charges and give the invoice number if you have it, the amount and date, and the email addresses you might have signed up with.1
- If nobody you know has the account, go to your bank If there is no Canva account you or anyone near you can find, treat it as fraud: ask your bank to cancel the card and dispute the charge, and ask what its deadline is. It depends on the bank, the card network and the reason, and missing it can end your options.
What Canva says about refunds
Canva’s terms of use, effective 19 August 2026, say that if you cancel, the plan is cancelled "at the end of your then-current billing cycle and you will not be entitled to a refund of any fees already paid (except where required by law)". A free trial turns into the next billing cycle’s fee "unless you cancel your subscription prior to the end of the free trial". Price rises apply from the next renewal or 30 days after notice, whichever is later.3
Refunds do happen. The Delaware data has eight refunds of Canva charges larger than $2, each under the same line as the charge. Five were for the full amount, 6 to 26 days after the charge. Three were for part of it ($92.85 of $119.40, $111.07 of $238.80 and $98.95 of $119.99), 65 to 126 days after the charge.4 The data does not show why any of them was refunded.
Is this a scam?
The name is real: these lines are Canva’s own, and the Delaware data shows hundreds of ordinary renewals under them.4 That does not make every such charge wanted. A stolen card can pay for a Canva plan as easily as anything else. If no account anyone you know can sign in to has the charge, it is not a renewal you forgot, and it belongs with your bank.
Why this page is on a site about held money
This site records payment companies that hold back money that belongs to someone else. Canva is not in the incident record; this page is here so that people searching for a name on a statement find the answer. Other plans that renew by themselves include SMK*SURVEYMONKEY, STK*SHUTTERSTOCK, OPENAI *CHATGPT SUBSCR, ADOBE *ADOBE and ZOOM.US or ZOOM.COM 888-799-9666; a Canva plan paid through PayPal is explained under PAYPAL *. Other lines are in the table of statement names.
