A charge from STAMPS.COM on your statement

Stamps.com is a service for printing US postage and shipping labels at home or in an office. It charges a card in two different ways, and they look different on a statement. One is the monthly service fee, billed on the same day every month. The other is postage: money put into a prepaid Stamps.com balance, by hand or automatically when the balance runs low.13 The company behind it is Auctane, Inc., which does business as Stamps.com.7

The short answer

STAMPS.COM 855-608-2677 with an odd amount like $17.99 or $29.99 is the monthly fee. USPS STAMPS ENDICIA 888-434-0055 DC, or since mid-2025 STAMPS.COM 888-434-0055 DC, with a round amount like $50 or $100 is postage being bought into the account (see the statements below). If you signed up once and stopped using it, the fee keeps coming until the account is closed, and because Stamps.com bills after the month is over, one more fee can come after you close.67 Unused postage is refunded within 4 to 8 weeks of closing; the unused part of the month is not.2 If nobody who uses your card has a Stamps.com account, call your bank, dispute the charges and ask for a new card.

What it looks like on a real statement

Public bodies that publish their card statements show both kinds of line side by side, often on the same card in the same month:

Stamps.com lines on published card statements
What the statement said Amount Date Whose statement
STAMPS.COM, described by the agency as “Stamps.com Monthly Fee” $29.99 25 December 2020 Napa Sanitation District (NapaSan), California11
USPS STAMPS ENDICIA, described as “Postage Refill” $50.00, twice 11 and 15 January 2021 Napa Sanitation District, California11
STAMPS.COM 855-608-2677 CA $17.99 4, 12 and 26 February 2022 A Colorado school district’s Alpine Bank cards12
USPS STAMPS ENDICIA 888-434-0055 DC $100.00, twice 17 February 2022 The same statements12
STAMPS.COM 855-608-2677 TX $21.79 8 and 16 November 2023 A South Carolina school district’s Bank of America purchasing card13
USPS STAMPS ENDICIA 888-434-0055 DC $100.00 29 November 2023 The same statement13
STAMPS.COM 888-434-0055 DC $20.00 and $100.00 22 August and 5 September 2025 Dorchester School District Two, South Carolina14
STAMPS.COM EL SEGUNDO CA $11.76 12 June 2026 Clarendon County School District, South Carolina15

The phone number is the quickest way to tell the two apart. 855-608-2677 is the number Stamps.com gives for cancelling an account;8 888-434-0055 is the number its help centre and its terms give for the same thing.27 On these statements the bank’s reference number also splits the same way: the 855-608-2677 lines start 2469216, and the postage lines start 24445, both before and after the name changed from USPS STAMPS ENDICIA to STAMPS.COM.121314 That is our reading of these three statements, not something Stamps.com has published. The state at the end has also moved: CA in 2022, TX in 2023, and one 2026 statement shows EL SEGUNDO CA with no phone number. Stamps.com’s terms say the service is operated from Texas.7

Twelve years of one state’s Stamps.com bills

The State of Delaware publishes every purchase its employees make on state cards, with the merchant name as the bank sent it. On 16 October 2026 it had 1,057 lines from Stamps.com, from June 2014 to September 2026, under three names:10

Stamps.com in Delaware’s card records
What the statement said Lines First and last seen What the amounts look like
STAMPS.COM 653 June 2014 to September 2026 567 are $15.99, $17.99, $19.99, $20.99, $24.99, $29.99 or $30.99; round postage amounts for a few weeks in 2017 and again since August 2025
USPS POSTAGE STAMPS.COM 237 July 2014 to 15 November 2019 Mostly round: $100 (98 lines), $50 (47)
USPS STAMPS ENDICIA 167 5 December 2019 to 14 July 2025 Mostly round: $50 (81 lines), $100 (34)

The postage line has changed its name twice, and the same offices show it. Three agencies bought postage as USPS POSTAGE STAMPS.COM until early or mid-November 2019; two of them bought it as USPS STAMPS ENDICIA from 5 and 11 December 2019, and the third from July 2020. Two of them, a state parks office and the Justice of the Peace Court, last bought postage under that name in May and July 2025, and from 11 and 12 August 2025 bought it under plain STAMPS.COM, the same name as the monthly fee.10 So since August 2025 a statement can show STAMPS.COM twice in one month for two different things; the amount and, where the bank prints it, the phone number tell them apart.

The monthly fee: same day, and it goes up

Stamps.com says it bills the fee “on the same date each month, based on your signup date”, and charges it “in arrears at the end of your billing cycle”.1 Delaware’s records show that: each account’s fee almost always lands on the same day of the month, for years. They also show the fee rising in steps, in the same months for accounts at unrelated agencies:10

The monthly fee on six Delaware accounts, with the first charge at each price
Account (day of the month billed) Price steps
Justice of the Peace Court (7th) $15.99 from 2014; $17.99 from 7 May 2019; $19.99 from 7 May 2023; $20.99 from 7 June 2025; $30.99 from 7 January 2026
Polytech School District (13th) $17.99 from 13 April 2019; $19.99 from 13 April 2023; $20.99 from 13 April 2025
Polytech School District (19th) $15.99 from 2014; $17.99 from 19 April 2019
State parks (27th) $15.99 from 2014; $17.99 from 27 April 2019
State parks (8th) $17.99 from 2020; $19.99 from 8 June 2023
State parks (16th) $17.99 from 2014; $24.99 from 16 October 2018; $29.99 from 16 June 2023; $30.99 from 16 June 2025

Three of these accounts went up in April or May 2019, four between April and June 2023, and three between April and June 2025. Stamps.com’s terms say it will give at least 30 days’ notice before the monthly fee changes, and that you can cancel at least 24 hours before the change if you do not accept it.7 The records do not say whether a step was a price rise or a change of plan, and the $30.99 on the court’s account from January 2026 came after a $22.66 charge the month before. None of these prices is on Stamps.com’s current price list, which shows plans at $14.99, $29.99 and $49.99 a month.9 Its help centre says that once you leave a plan that is no longer offered, “you won’t be able to return to it.”1

Refunds of the fee are rare in these records: against 567 fee charges there are four lines with a minus sign at a fee amount, in 2017, 2019, 2020 and 2024, each 7 to 23 days after a charge of the same amount.10

Why a charge comes after you cancel

Stamps.com’s own pages do not say the same thing about the last bill.

Read together, the terms and the cancellation page are the ones that describe how the fee is actually charged: one fee for the last month, after the account is closed. The trial is described as 30 days on the price list and in the FAQ, and as 4 weeks on the cancellation page.986 Stamps.com says that if you cancel before the trial ends you will not be charged the fee, but you still pay for any postage you used.17

How to stop it and get money back

  1. Find the account Search every email address you use for messages from Stamps.com. If you shipped through eBay or ShipStation, check those too: ShipStation is run by Auctane LLC, whose parent is the same Auctane, Inc.,207 and one eBay seller wrote in June 2025 that Stamps.com called an $18.70 charge on their card a “pass through” from ShipStation, which said the account had been set up by eBay for its shipping labels.19 That is one seller’s account of two phone calls.
  2. Close it online or by phone Online: Account menu, Manage Account, Account Settings, Subscription Plan, Close Account. By phone: 1-888-434-0055, Monday to Friday, 6 am to 6 pm Pacific time.2 The FAQ gives 855-608-2677 for the same thing.8 When you cancel by phone, Stamps.com says you get a confirmation email and can ask for a confirmation number for the call;6 ask for it. One user wrote in September 2019 that the online cancellation ended in an error after several steps, and that an email then said their monthly fee had been lowered, an option they said they had not picked; when they called the next day, an automated message said the account was cancelled.18
  3. Turn off automatic postage first Postage can be bought automatically whenever the balance drops below a level you set.3 That is why round amounts can keep appearing even when nobody remembers buying postage.
  4. Get the postage balance back Stamps.com says any remaining postage balance is refunded within 4 to 8 weeks of closing, that promotional postage is not refunded, and that closing does not refund unused time on the subscription.2 Its terms add that unpaid fees can be taken out of that refund.7 Unused USPS labels have their own deadline: an electronic refund request within 28 days of printing.4
  5. If nobody you know has an account, go to your bank Tell your card issuer you want to dispute the charges, read them the lines exactly as printed, and ask for a new card. Stamps.com asks people who see charges they did not approve to contact it by phone or email.5 Ask your bank what its deadline for disputes is.

Is it a scam?

A line from STAMPS.COM or USPS STAMPS ENDICIA is a real charge from Stamps.com. (A line that starts USPS and has no Stamps.com in it, such as USPS CHANGE OF ADDRESS, comes from the Postal Service itself and is explained on the USPS charge page.) The trouble is usually one of two things: an account someone forgot about, or an account someone else is using. Postage is a thing that can be bought with a stolen card and used straight away. A South Carolina public service district’s October 2020 check register lists six $90.00 charges from STAMPS.COM and USPS STAMPS ENDICIA, each described as “FRAUDULENT TRANSACTION- CREDIT CARD CLOS”, the description cut off as printed, and six $90.00 credits “FOR FRAUDULENT TRANSACTION”.16 A Reddit user wrote in February 2019 that someone had got into a Stamps.com account the poster’s wife had stopped using, with a password she had not used in years, and bought about $2,000 of labels in rising amounts, “First $30, then $110 then $300”; they disputed the charges with their bank, had the card replaced and were waiting for the money to come back.17 Stamps.com now says some accounts have a funding limit and must verify their identity before adding more money.3
