A charge from DNH*GODADDY on your statement

DNH*GODADDY is GoDaddy, the company that sells web addresses (domains), websites, hosting and email. Many of its products renew by themselves each month or year, so the usual answer is a renewal of something someone set up long ago.15

The short answer

Sign in at godaddy.com and open Order History. Match the date and the amount, and the number after # if your statement shows one: GoDaddy says that number is the order number.1 If it was a renewal you do not want, you may still get the money back, but the window is short: 45 days for a one-year domain renewal, 30 days for most yearly plans, 48 hours for monthly ones. You have to ask by phone, text or chat; GoDaddy does not act on refund requests by email.23

What it looks like on a real statement

GoDaddy’s help page says card charges "often" start with DNH* and that "beginning June 2024, many of these descriptors will also end with an order number". It does not say what DNH stands for.1 The State of Delaware publishes every purchase its employees make on state cards, with the merchant name as the bank received it. When we counted on 30 September 2026 it had 552 GoDaddy lines, from 14 July 2017 to 25 August 2026, bought by school districts, charter schools, the legislature and state departments.6

GoDaddy lines in Delaware’s card data, 2017–2026
What the statement said Lines When
DNH*GODADDY.COM 435 July 2017 to 24 June 2024. After that only 5 more, the last on 9 February 2026
DNH*GODADDY#3185089937 85 11 July 2024 to 18 May 2026. The number after # is the order number
DNH*GODADDY 6 30 January to 24 April 2026, with nothing after it
GODADDY#4095988064, GODADDY*#4104653112, GODADDY 7 24 May to 25 August 2026. No DNH* at all: every GoDaddy line since 24 May 2026 looks like this
DNH*GODADDY.COM EUROPE 5 December 2020 and January 2021
DNH*MEDIA TEMPLE INC, DNH*SUCURI WEBSITE SECURI 14 2017 to 2022. Media Temple (hosting) and Sucuri (website security) belong to GoDaddy; Sucuri’s site is signed "GoDaddy Mediatemple, Inc., d/b/a Sucuri", and mediatemple.net now forwards to godaddy.com7

So the date on your statement tells you what to look for. Before the end of June 2024 the line for GoDaddy itself was DNH*GODADDY.COM. From July 2024 it carried a 10-digit order number after DNH*GODADDY#. From late May 2026, in this data, the DNH* is gone and the line starts GODADDY#.6 GoDaddy’s help page, read on 30 September 2026, still describes the DNH* form.1 The Delaware data shows posted charges on one set of cards; your bank may shorten the line or add a town and phone number to it.

All 91 numbered lines in Delaware’s data have the full 10 digits. GoDaddy warns that "not all banks and payment providers can display our full 10-digit order number"; if yours is cut, search Order History with the part you have plus the date and amount.1

A GoDaddy charge can also carry no GoDaddy name at all. GoDaddy says that some payment companies it uses abroad put generic names on the line, containing CCAVENUE or DLOCAL.1

Why a card you thought you had removed was charged

GoDaddy’s auto-renew page says: "If the selected payment method can't be charged at billing time, we may try another payment method that has been successfully used before."5 A renewal can therefore land on an older card still stored in the account, not only on the card you chose. A card cannot be deleted while it is attached to an active product, and an account with active products must keep at least one card.4 Turning the renewal off is what stops the charge; removing a card alone may not.

How to find it and stop it

  1. Find the order Sign in at godaddy.com and open Order History. Use the date, the amount and any part of the order number. If you still cannot find it, use Filters to list charges by stored card, and check any other GoDaddy account you or your business may have.1 No account? Search your email, including spam, for “GoDaddy” and for the exact amount. Whoever built a website or bought a domain for you, a relative, a former employee, a web designer, may have used your card.
  2. Turn off the renewal Go to Renewals and Billing, choose Manage Subscriptions, pick the product and choose Cancel Plan, then confirm. You keep using the product until the date shown, and "you won’t be charged on the next billing date". After that date the product and its data are deleted. Cancelling a domain with Domain Protection asks you to confirm by text code, authenticator app or a one-time password sent to the account email.4
  3. Ask for the refund in time GoDaddy’s steps are: check the refund policy, delete the product you want refunded, then contact its support staff. "Refund requests received by email will not be processed. You must contact us by phone, SMS or chat."3 Do not close the account first: the refund policy says that after account closure "you will no longer be eligible for a refund".2
  4. If nobody you know bought it, go to your bank If there is no such order in any account you can reach, treat it as fraud: ask your bank to cancel the card and dispute the charge, and ask what its deadline is. It depends on the bank, the card network and the reason, and missing it can end your options.

How long you have to get a refund

The count starts on the "date of the transaction", which the policy says includes "the date any renewal is processed". These are GoDaddy’s own figures from its refund policy, last revised on 14 September 2026:2

GoDaddy refund windows, counted from the day of the charge
What was charged Refund if you ask within
Domain, automatic renewal for one year 45 days
Domain, automatic renewal for more than one year 5 days
Domain, new registration or manual renewal 5 days
Most yearly plans 30 days
Most monthly plans (anything shorter than a year) 48 hours
Yearly Microsoft 365 email; yearly Websites + Marketing 7 days
Hosting 30 days, and only if the service has not been performed
Any purchase, for customers in Brazil 7 days

Some domain endings have their own windows (for example 3 days for .au and 14 days for renewals of .it), and some products cannot be refunded at all. If a product came with a free domain, the list price of the domain is taken off the refund. Check the policy for your product before you call.2

Is this a scam?

The name is real: DNH*GODADDY and, since May 2026, GODADDY# and a number are how GoDaddy’s own charges appear.16 That does not make every such charge wanted. A stolen card can buy a domain as easily as anything else. If no GoDaddy account you can sign in to has the order, it is not a renewal you forgot, and it belongs with your bank.

Why this page is on a site about held money

This site records payment companies that hold back money that belongs to someone else. GoDaddy is not in the incident record; this page is here so that people searching for a name on a statement find the answer. If your line starts SQ *, that is Square; a site plan or domain from the website builder Wix shows as WIX.COM and an invoice number; PAYPAL * is PayPal; SP is a Shopify shop; SPI* is a bill paid through Speedpay; SMK*SURVEYMONKEY is a SurveyMonkey plan that renewed; STK*SHUTTERSTOCK is a Shutterstock plan or pack; MAILCHIMP *MISC is a Mailchimp email plan; INTUIT *QBOOKS ONLINE is a QuickBooks plan; VISTAPRINT can be a Vistaprint website plan, now moving to Wix billing. Other lines are in the table of statement names.
