A charge from NETFLIX.COM on your statement
NETFLIX.COM is a charge for a Netflix membership. Netflix bills on the
day of the month the account was opened, so the same date keeps coming
back.2 The same charge sometimes reads
NETFLIX or NETFLIX INC. instead.8
If you have no Netflix account, Netflix’s own explanation is that someone “may have started an account with your payment method”, and it asks you to contact it immediately.1 Tell your bank as well. If you closed the account or the card expired and the charge still came, see the two cases below: Netflix names a cause for each.
What it looks like on a real statement
The State of Delaware publishes every purchase its employees make on state cards, with the merchant name as the bank received it. When we counted on 8 October 2026, Netflix made 328 lines from 13 state offices, hospitals and schools, from July 2017 to August 2026.8
| What the statement said | Lines | When |
|---|---|---|
NETFLIX.COM | 311 | 8 July 2017 to 21 August 2026 |
NETFLIX | 13 | November 2019 to August 2026, in between NETFLIX.COM months of the same subscriptions |
NETFLIX INC. | 4 | August 2024 to December 2025, the same way |
The three names are one subscription changing names from month to month, not three accounts. The
Howard R. Young Correctional Institution paid $15.49 on the 21st of each month: in August 2024 the
line read NETFLIX INC., in September NETFLIX.COM, in October
NETFLIX, and then NETFLIX.COM again.8
Two lines named MGM GRAND - NETFLIX BI in the same data are filed under bars and
lounges, not under subscriptions.
Why it comes on the same day every month
Netflix says your billing date “corresponds to the day you signed up”, may show one day earlier because of time zones, and falls on the last day of the month when the month is too short.2 The state’s data follows that rule. The Veterans Home was charged on the 19th of every month for eight years. A school district billed on the 30th was charged on 29 February in 2020.8 The only way Netflix gives to move the date is to cancel and restart on the day you want.2
Why the amount went up
One subscription in the state’s data shows every step. The Veterans Home paid on the 19th of the month (on the 11th from February 2026):8
| First month at this amount | Amount |
|---|---|
| July 2017 (first line in the data) | $9.99 |
| November 2017 | $10.99 |
| March 2019 | $12.99 |
| December 2020 | $13.99 |
| March 2022 | $15.49 |
| March 2025 | $17.99 |
| May 2026 | $19.99 |
The other two subscriptions in the data that were paying before May 2026 went up in the same month: the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution from $17.99 to $19.99 and a state hospital from $24.99 to $26.99, both in May 2026.8 The data does not name the plan behind each amount.
Netflix says it emails you “one month before the billing date on which your price will increase”, and that “once a price change is announced, the new plan prices apply to everyone.” A higher charge can also mean someone in the household upgraded the plan, or that a sign-up or upgrade offer ended.3
Charged after canceling, on an expired card, or twice
After canceling. Netflix says “you or someone who was using your account may have accidentally restarted it”. Its fix: cancel again at netflix.com/cancelplan, then change the password at netflix.com/password with “Sign out of all devices” checked, so nobody can restart it.5
On a card that expired. Banks “may automatically update credit or debit card numbers when a new card is issued”, which lets the charge go on.1 A new card number does not stop a subscription; canceling does.
Twice in one month. Netflix gives two causes: switching to a higher-priced plan, which can bring “a separate prorated amount”, and buying an extra member slot, which is charged separately for the first month.4 If neither happened, it asks you to contact it.
Will Netflix give the money back?
Not by default. Netflix’s terms say: “Payments are nonrefundable and there are no refunds or credits for partially used subscription periods.” The same section says Netflix may give a refund or credit at its “sole and absolute discretion”.7 In the state’s data there are three Netflix refunds among 328 lines. Each one matches a charge of the same amount to the same office, and came back 1, 5 and 7 days after it.8
How to find it and stop it
- Find the account Check every email address in your household for a Netflix receipt on that date. Signed in, the Payment History page shows the plan and every charge.2
- Cancel before the next billing date Open Manage your membership, choose Cancel, then Finish Cancellation. Signing out or deleting the app does not cancel. You can keep watching to the end of the period you paid for.6
- If there is no Cancel button Netflix says the account is then paid through a partner: look under Membership on the Account page for the partner’s instructions and cancel with them.6
- If it is not your account, go to your bank Ask your bank to dispute the charge and ask what its deadline is. It depends on the bank, the card network and the reason.
Is this a scam?
The names are real: the Delaware data has 328 of them, paid with the state’s cards.8 A real name does not make every charge yours. A family member’s account, an old account still billing a card the bank renewed, or someone who opened an account with your card number all look the same on a statement. If no account you can sign in to shows a payment on that date, treat it as a charge you did not make.
Why this page is on a site about held money
This site records payment companies that hold back money that belongs to someone else. Netflix is
not in the incident record; the closest part of this page is the term
that a payment is final. Other subscriptions bought in an app store show up as
APPLE.COM/BILL or GOOGLE *, and
YouTube TV as GOOGLE *YOUTUBE TV; other streaming and news subscriptions as
HLU*HULUPLUS, DISNEY PLUS, NYTIMES* and GAN*NEWSPAPER SUB. Other
lines are in the table of statement names.
