A charge starting with DD *DOORDASH on your statement
DD *DOORDASH is DoorDash, the food delivery service. Most lines are a food order, and the word after DOORDASH is the start of the restaurant’s name. DD *DOORDASHDASHPASS, with nothing between the words, is DashPass, DoorDash’s monthly or yearly delivery membership.13
Open the DoorDash app or doordash.com, tap the account icon and look at your order history and at Manage DashPass, where the billing history is. DoorDash’s own page for an unfamiliar $9.99 charge says to think about who else can log in to your account, and, if you have no account, who you have given your card number to, since someone may have used it on their own account.1
What it looks like on a real statement
The State of Delaware publishes every purchase its employees make on state cards, with the
merchant name as the bank received it. When we counted on 29 September 2026 it had 567 lines
starting DD *, from 11 January 2024 to 26 August 2026: 116 in 2024, 287 in
2025 and 164 in 2026 so far. All but 14 are filed as restaurants.3
| What the statement said | Lines | What it is |
|---|---|---|
DD *DOORDASH CHICK-FIL, DD *DOORDASH GIANT, DD *DOORDASH WAWA | 383 in all | An order from Chick-fil-A (14 lines), Giant (13), Wawa (8) and so on. The restaurant is written out and cut where the line runs out, at 22 characters, so DD *DOORDASH THECHEESE is “The Cheese…” |
DD *DOORDASHDASHPASS | 36 | DashPass. $9.99 fifteen times, $96.00 twice, $48.00 twice and $59.00 once, plus amounts that were refunded (see below) |
DD *DDDOORDASHWINGSTOP | 9 | A food order with “DD” written twice: DD *DD and then DOORDASH and the restaurant. The nine are from 2025 and 2026 |
DD *CAPRIOTTISSANDWICH, DD *BELLACAPRIRESTAUR | 139 in all | Only the restaurant’s name, without DOORDASH. Capriotti’s alone is 52 lines, from April 2025. DoorDash’s help pages that we read do not say why some restaurants appear without its name |
So a line starting DD * is not always labelled DoorDash. If you see
DD * followed by a restaurant you ordered from, that is probably a delivery,
but the name alone does not prove it.3
Is the $9.99 charge DashPass?
DoorDash’s help page says that if the bank statement says "DoorDash DashPass or DashPass then it is a charge for our subscription service." The page, as we read it on 29 September 2026, lists the price as "$9.99/month with the monthly plan or $96/year ($8/month) with the Annual Plan." Those are the two amounts that come up most on DD *DOORDASHDASHPASS in Delaware’s data.13
The page also says a free trial turns into the plan you picked once it is over: "you will be automatically enrolled in the membership plan you selected at sign-up and a payment method in your DoorDash account will be charged", and the membership "will auto-renew on your membership billing date until you cancel."1 A first $9.99 that follows a free month is usually this.
Some DashPass lines are charged and taken back within days. Delaware’s data shows $4.99 and $5.00 charged on the same day in May 2024, both reversed five days later, and again in September 2025; $9.99 charged on 27 July 2025 and reversed on 30 July; and $9.99 charged on 11 August 2025 and reversed the next day. The data does not say why.3 A reversed charge shows as a second line with a minus sign, so check your statement for it before calling anyone.
How to stop it
- Cancel in the app or on doordash.com Tap the account icon, then Manage DashPass, then Cancel Membership, pick a reason, and tap Cancel DashPass. You get a confirmation email.2
- Do it a day early DoorDash says: "To avoid charges for the next subscription period, you must cancel your DashPass membership 24 hours before your next scheduled payment." After cancelling, the benefits stay valid "through the end of the current billing period"; if you cancel during a free period they end immediately.2
- Ask for the charge back The two help pages we read say nothing about a refund for a charge you missed. Chat and phone support are listed as available 24/7 on the same page.2 Ask them to reverse the last payment, and note the date and the answer.
- If you have no DoorDash account, or nobody in your home used it, go to the bank Bring the statement line exactly as printed, the date and the amount. Ask the bank for its dispute deadline, which depends on the bank, the card network and the reason, and ask for a new card number so that it cannot be billed again.
Is this fraud?
Usually not: in Delaware’s data these are meals and memberships, not odd amounts.3 But DoorDash accepts a card typed into any account, so a stolen card can be used here as easily as anywhere. If your order history and billing history show nothing for that date and amount, treat the charge as unauthorized, call your bank, and dispute it.
Why this page is on a site about held money
This site records payment companies that hold back money that belongs to someone else. DoorDash is a delivery service, not a payment processor, and the incident record has no DoorDash entries. The page is here so that people looking for a name on a statement can find the answer. Grocery orders show up as IC* INSTACART; a restaurant’s own card reader shows up as TST*, SPO* or SQ *; a ride is LYFT *RIDE or UBER *TRIP. Other lines are in the table of statement names.
