A Target charge on your statement: TARGET T-1876, TARGET 00018762, TARGET.COM or TARGET PLUS

TARGET followed by T- and four digits, or by eight digits starting 000, is a purchase in a Target store; the digits are the store’s number.568 TARGET.COM, sometimes with 800-591-3869, is an order from the website or app. TARGET PLUS is an item on Target.com sold by another company, a Target Plus Partner.1

The short answer

Sign in to Target.com, open Orders and switch to In-store. Store purchases appear there if the card used is saved in the account, the Wallet barcode was scanned, or the phone number on the account was entered at the register.2 For a store line, the number tells you which store. For an online order, Target’s Guest Services number is 1-800-591-3869.3 If nothing matches, call your bank.

What it looks like on a real statement

A Louisiana school system publishes every charge on its purchasing cards. These lines are copied from two of its yearly files:

Target lines on published card statements
Statement line Amount When
TARGET 00018762 COVINGTON, LA 52.29 18 March 20255
TARGET T-1876 41.70 3 August 2026: the same store under its new name68
TARGET 00034413 MANDEVILLE, LA 49.37 13 January 20255
TARGET 00018762 COVINGTON, LA −6.10 11 April 2025: money returned, the same day as a 6.10 charge5
TARGET.COM 800-591-3869, MN 141.30 19 August 20245
TARGET PLUS BROOKLYN PARK, MN −22.62 20 September 2024: money returned5

The store name changed in May 2026

Until spring 2026, a Target store printed as TARGET and eight digits. From May 2026 the same store prints as TARGET T- and four digits, or TARGET STORE T-. The Louisiana school system’s cards show TARGET 00018762 COVINGTON, LA for nine charges and refunds in 2024–25 and TARGET T-1876 in August 2026.56 Target’s page for store 1876 is the Covington store, and for store 3441 the Mandeville store, which the older file prints as TARGET 00034413 MANDEVILLE, LA.8

The State of Delaware publishes every purchase its employees make on state cards. When we checked on 19 October 2026, its data had 2,775 store lines under 127 eight-digit codes; the last is dated 7 May 2026. The first T- line is dated 12 May 2026, and 92 have followed under 15 numbers.7 The four busiest stores show the switch:

Target store lines in Delaware’s card data: the old code and the new one
Old name Lines, last date New name Lines, first date
TARGET 00013128 1,062, 4 May 2026 TARGET T-1312 26, 12 May 2026
TARGET 00027649 509, 7 May 2026 TARGET T-2764 13, 4 June 2026
TARGET 00011460 607, 9 April 2026 TARGET T-1146 14, 18 June 2026
TARGET 00028753 196, 30 April 2026 TARGET STORE T-2875 21, 27 May 2026

Target’s page for store 1312 is the Dover, Delaware store.8 So to read either kind of line: in the new one the store number is the four digits after T-; in the old one drop the leading zeros and the last digit. In all 127 old codes in Delaware’s data, the last digit is the check digit that the Luhn formula, the one used for card numbers, gives for the store number; that finding is ours, not Target’s.7 Put the store number after target.com/sl/x/ to see which store it is.

TARGET PLUS is a partner seller on Target.com

Target sells some items on its website for other companies, which it calls Target Plus Partners. An order that mixes Target’s items and a Partner’s is split into two orders with two order numbers, and two pending amounts appear on the card. Target says: “Final charges from Partners will post to your account under the Merchant ID Target Plus.”1 In Delaware’s data, TARGET PLUS has 169 lines from March 2019 to September 2026.7 If you see TARGET PLUS next to a TARGET.COM charge from the same day, that is probably one order in two parts.

Pending amounts that are not charges

Target first places an authorization hold for the estimated order total. When the item ships, the hold is removed and the charge posts; an order shipped in several parts can have several holds and charges. A Same Day Delivery hold can be higher than the subtotal, to allow for substitutions. Target says that depending on the bank, the hold can take a few days to go.1

With PayPal, Target says a hold “can be extended up to 365 days, renewing every 30 days”, and adding a payment method to an order can place a hold for the order total even if the order was never submitted. If you have a hold and placed no order, it says to look for an open cart on Target.com and remove the items or the PayPal details.1

How to find it and get the money back

  1. Look in Orders, In-store On Target.com, open Orders and switch to In-store; in the app, Purchases then In-store. Purchases appear within a few hours and stay for about a year. If yours are not there, add the card to Payment in your account and look again.2
  2. Check who else uses the card Target says in-store history shows every purchase made with that card number, including by anyone you have given the number to.2 A store line names a town and a store number: if nobody in the household has been to that store, that is worth knowing before you call anyone.
  3. For an online order, ask Target Target’s Guest Services number for Target.com and app orders is 1-800-591-3869.3 A Target Circle 360 membership costs $10.99 a month or $99 a year and is managed at target.com/account/memberships.4
  4. If it is not yours Call your bank, dispute the charge and ask for a new card. Ask the bank what its deadline is.

Is this a scam?

The names are real: a Louisiana school system and the State of Delaware pay them every month.57 The new T- form looks unfamiliar only because it is new. A real name does not make every charge yours: a TARGET.COM line can be an order someone placed with your card number.

Why this page is on a site about held money

This site records payment companies that hold back money that belongs to someone else. Target is not in the incident record; the part of this page closest to it is the PayPal hold that can be renewed for up to a year. Walmart’s lines are explained on the Walmart charge page, Sam’s Club’s on the Sam’s Club page, and Amazon’s on AMAZON MKTPL or AMZN MKTP US. The Postal Service’s change-of-address fee is on the USPS charge page. Other lines are in the table of statement names.
