A charge from VZWRLSS* or VERIZON BILL PAYMENT on your statement

VZWRLSS*, VERIZONWRLSS*RTCCR and VERIZON BILL PAYMENT are payments to Verizon, the phone and home internet company, for a mobile bill or a Fios bill. Verizon takes payments in the My Verizon app and website, by phone (#PMT from a Verizon mobile, or 800-922-0204), in its stores, by mail, and on a page that pays a bill without signing in, which Verizon says “Requires account number and ZIP code.”4

The short answer

If you or someone in your household has Verizon, sign in to My Verizon and look for a payment of the same amount on the same day. If nobody you know has a Verizon account, someone used your card to pay Verizon. Call your bank: Verizon’s fraud page says “In order to dispute charges on a credit card or bank statement, you’ll need to contact your bank directly.”1

What it looks like on a real statement

The State of Delaware publishes every purchase its employees make on state cards, with the merchant name as the bank received it. When we counted on 7 October 2026, the eight Verizon payment names below made 44,288 lines from 40 state departments, colleges and school districts, from June 2017 to August 2026.6 The ledger drops some punctuation, so a space or star may sit in a different place on your own statement.

Verizon payment lines in Delaware’s card data, 2017–2026
What the statement said Lines When
VERIZONWRLSS*RTCCR VB 21,396 24 July 2019 to 26 August 2026. The most common Verizon line since August 2019, see below
VZWRLSS*MY VZ VB P 6,653 27 June 2017 to 22 August 2026. Includes 9 lines ending VW P or VE P. Almost gone after July 2019
VZWRLSS*IVR VB 4,889 28 June 2017 to 9 July 2026. Includes 10 lines ending VE or VW
VZWRLSS*APOCC VISB 4,419 7 July 2017 to 26 August 2026
VERIZON*ONETIMEPAYMENT 2,774 28 June 2017 to 10 February 2023, then renamed, see below. Includes 160 lines cut short to VERIZON*ONETIMEPAY
VZWRLSS*BILL PAY VB 2,421 25 April 2019 to 8 August 2026
VERIZON BILL PAYMENT 1,613 11 February 2023 to 25 August 2026
VERIZON*RECURRING PAY 123 6 July 2017 to 27 August 2026

Verizon does not say on its pages what the letters after the star stand for. MY VZ matches the name of the My Verizon app and website, and IVR is the usual short name for an automated phone line, which at Verizon is #PMT. That is our reading of the letters, not something Verizon has written. We found no Verizon page for RTCCR, APOCC, VB or VISB.

Some lines in the state’s data carry a Fios television category instead of a phone one: 749 of the VERIZON*ONETIMEPAYMENT lines and 53 of the VERIZON BILL PAYMENT lines.6 So the same name can pay a mobile bill or a home bill.

The name changed twice

July and August 2019. From 1 to 20 July 2019 there are 195 lines named VZWRLSS*MY VZ VB P; the first VERIZONWRLSS*RTCCR VB line is dated 24 July 2019, and from September 2019 to the end of the year the old name appears 2 times and the new one 984 times. The same bills carry on under the new name. The State Treasurer’s office paid $104.76 on 20 July 2019 as MY VZ, then $104.76 on 20 August and 18 September as RTCCR. The Department of Finance paid $45.06 on 12 June as MY VZ, then $45.06 on 24 July, 20 August and 13 September as RTCCR.6

10 and 11 February 2023. The last VERIZON*ONETIMEPAYMENT line is dated 10 February 2023 and the first VERIZON BILL PAYMENT line 11 February 2023. Sixteen offices paid under both. Appoquinimink School District paid $50.00 on 10 January 2023 under the old name and $50.00 on 11 February and 14 March under the new one; five bills it paid on 19 January ($173.00 twice, $184.14, $391.40 and $486.70) were paid again in the same amounts on 22 February and 21 March as VERIZON BILL PAYMENT.6

The old name said “one time”, but the district paid the same amounts under it every month. A Verizon line that says one-time can be a bill that comes back. If your older statement says VZWRLSS*MY VZ or VERIZON*ONETIMEPAYMENT and the newer one says RTCCR or VERIZON BILL PAYMENT, the data shows the same bills moving to the new names.

Charged twice?

Verizon’s Auto Pay page says that if you make a one-time payment near your Auto Pay date while the automatic payment is already in process, “you’ll see a message letting you know that making the payment may result in a duplicate payment.”2 So two Verizon lines a few days apart can be an Auto Pay payment and a payment you made by hand.

For refunds of a mobile payment, Verizon’s pay page lists these times: credit or debit card, 3–5 business days; check, 2–3 weeks; for a bank transfer, “Same-day payments are voided in real time. Day 2 payment inquiries take 7 to 10 business days.”4 For a closed Fios or home account with money left on the final bill, Verizon says “Refunds may take 60 days or more to be processed”, and a consumer gets a check for $0.01 to $4.99 or for $5,000 and over, and a prepaid card for anything from $5.00 to $5,000.00.5

How to find it and stop it

  1. Find the payment in My Verizon Sign in and look for the same amount and date. Verizon’s fraud page tells account holders to ask the other family members on the account first.1
  2. Stop Auto Pay before the day it posts In My Verizon, choose Pause/Turn off Auto Pay. Pause skips the current month; Turn off ends it.2 Verizon says “You can pause an automatic payment in My Verizon up to the day before it’s set to post” and “You can’t cancel a payment on the day it’s set to post.”2 The Auto Pay terms say Verizon tells you the payment date and amount at least 10 days ahead.3
  3. Check the date if it moved A payment date of the 29th, 30th or 31st is paid the next day in months without that date.2 The terms also say Verizon may change the scheduled date without prior notice but will tell you before the payment.3
  4. If it is not your account, go to your bank Verizon sends card disputes to the bank.1 Ask your bank to dispute the charge and ask what its deadline is. It depends on the bank, the card network and the reason.

If it is your own Verizon account, know this before you dispute: the Auto Pay terms say that if a payment is “disputed, or reversed by your financial institution or card issuer for any reason”, Verizon can charge a returned item fee and take the account off Auto Pay.3 The bill itself does not go away.

Is this a scam?

The names are real: the Delaware data alone has more than forty-four thousand of them, paid with the state’s cards.6 A real name does not make every charge yours. Verizon’s page for paying without signing in lists what it requires as an account number and ZIP code.4 If the payment is on no account of yours, that is a question for your bank.

Text messages asking for your card are another matter. Verizon says it does not send texts that “Ask for credit card/payment information”, and asks that suspicious ones be forwarded to 7726 (SPAM).1

Why this page is on a site about held money

This site records payment companies that hold back money that belongs to someone else. Verizon is not in the incident record; the closest part of this page is the credit left on a closed home account, which Verizon says can take 60 days or more to come back. Other bill payments show up as SPI* (Speedpay), ATT* BILL PAYMENT or AT&T MOBILITY EPAY and COMCAST / XFINITY, and phone accounts for people in jail as GTL*INMATE PHONE SVC. Other lines are in the table of statement names.
