A charge from COMCAST or COMCAST / XFINITY on your statement
COMCAST / XFINITY is a payment on an Xfinity bill: home internet,
cable TV, home phone or home security from Comcast. Until May 2025 the same payments read only
COMCAST. If the bill is on automatic payments, Xfinity takes the money on the bill’s
due date.3
If you, someone in your household or your landlord has Xfinity, sign in at xfinity.com and look
under Billing for a payment on that date. If nobody you know has Xfinity, call your bank. Xfinity’s
own phone number is 1-800-XFINITY (1-800-934-6489).4
A COMCAST BUSINESS line is a business account, paid on a separate Comcast Business
site.5
What it looks like on a real statement
The State of Delaware publishes every purchase its employees make on state cards, with the
merchant name as the bank received it. When we counted on 8 October 2026, the two names
COMCAST and COMCAST / XFINITY made 8,909 lines from 105 offices in 31
departments, schools and other public bodies, from June 2017 to August 2026.6
| What the statement said | Lines | When |
|---|---|---|
COMCAST | 7,723 | 28 June 2017 to 18 May 2025 |
COMCAST / XFINITY | 1,186 | 20 May 2025 to 26 August 2026 |
COMCAST BUSINESS | 213 | August 2020 to August 2026. Business accounts |
COMCAST ADVERTISING | 20 | August 2025 to July 2026. Advertising bought from Comcast, not a home bill |
XFINITY PREPAID | 2 | April and October 2020 |
Half of the COMCAST and COMCAST / XFINITY payments were $137.05 or less;
about one in ten was under $49.34 and one in ten over $327.42.6
Names like SQ *AKLK1COMCAST.NET in the same data start with SQ *: they
are payments to small businesses through Square, not to Comcast.
The name changed in May 2025
In the state’s data the last COMCAST line is dated 18 May 2025 and the first
COMCAST / XFINITY line 20 May 2025. Sixty office-and-amount pairs paid the same
amount under both names between February and August 2025. The State Lottery Office paid $205.35
on the 9th of February, March, April and May 2025 as COMCAST, then on the 9th of June,
July and August as COMCAST / XFINITY. The communications section of the Department of
Safety and Homeland Security paid $378.67 on the 3rd of each month the same way.6
So if your older statements say COMCAST and the newer ones say
COMCAST / XFINITY, the data shows the same bill moving to the new name, not a second
account. Xfinity does not say on its pages when the statement name changed; the dates above are
from the ledger.
Why the amount is different every month
An automatic payment is not a fixed price. Xfinity says automatic payments charge your current balance, “bill amount minus any credits or recent payments”, on the bill due date.3 In the state’s data, 29 offices paid Comcast once a month on the same day of the month at least twelve times, and every one of them paid a different amount at least once.6 A line for a different amount than last month is not, on its own, a sign of a second account.
Charged twice?
Xfinity treats two payments of the same amount on the same day as a possible duplicate: its payment page tells customers who mean to pay twice to use two different payment methods.2 If you did pay twice, Xfinity lists “made a double payment” as a reason you may get a refund, with two conditions. Your credit balance must be “greater than the cost of one month of service”; a smaller credit stays on the account and is used for future bills. And any money you owe, including for equipment you have not returned, comes out of it first.1
Will Xfinity give the money back?
Xfinity separates a refund, money back to you, from a credit, which stays on the account (“Credits stay on your account”), and says not every credit can be refunded. Its own times:1
| Situation | Where the money goes | How long, says Xfinity |
|---|---|---|
| Overpaid or paid twice by credit card | The same card | “Most refunds are processed within 3 to 5 days” |
| Overpaid by bank account | The same bank account | Five to 15 days |
| Credit left on a closed account | The last payment method on file | Four to six weeks once the account qualifies. Xfinity first waits until rented equipment is back, or 30 days after the account closed |
| The card or account can no longer take the refund, $500 or less | An email from notifications@refunds.xfinity.com to claim it; after 15 days unclaimed, a prepaid card by mail | Prepaid cards arrive in 7 to 15 business days |
| The card or account can no longer take the refund, over $500 | A paper check by mail | Five to eight weeks |
Refunds are rare in the state’s data: 18 refund lines against 8,909 payments.6 If the payment was made with your card on an account that is not yours, that account’s credit rules are not your problem to solve; that is a dispute for your bank.
How to find it and stop it
- Find the payment Sign in to xfinity.com as the Primary or Manager user, open Billing, then View Bill & Transaction History. Upcoming payments, their dates, amounts and the card on file are listed there.23
- Turn off automatic payments, or change the card Billing & Pay, then Manage Auto Pay, then Turn Off. Only the Primary or Manager user can do it, and not on the day a payment is processing. Xfinity Mobile is different: it requires automatic payments, so you can change the card but not turn them off.3 Turning off automatic payments does not cancel the service; the bill is still due.
- Cancel a payment that has not gone through yet Under Upcoming payments, select the payment, then Edit payment and Cancel Payment.2
- If it is not your account, go to your bank Ask your bank to dispute the charge and ask what its deadline is. It depends on the bank, the card network and the reason.
Is this a scam?
The names are real: the Delaware data has 8,909 of them, paid with the state’s cards.6 A real name does not make every charge yours. A roommate’s or family member’s bill paid with a card you once saved, an old account still on automatic payments, or someone else paying their own Xfinity bill with your card number all look the same on a statement.
Scams around Xfinity usually run the other way: someone calls, texts or emails claiming to be Xfinity and asks you to pay. Xfinity says it “will not ask you to pay using a specific payment method such as merchant gift cards, wire transfer, PayPal, Venmo, or Zelle”, and warns that the people doing this “may have access to personal information such as address, account number, balance due, and even last payment amount”. Its advice is to hang up and call 1-800-XFINITY yourself.4
Why this page is on a site about held money
This site records payment companies that hold back money that belongs to someone else. Comcast is not in the incident record; the closest part of this page is the rule that a credit on your account is not always money you can get back. Other household bills paid by card show up as VZWRLSS* or VERIZON BILL PAYMENT, ATT* BILL PAYMENT and SPI*. Other lines are in the table of statement names.
