A charge from MAILCHIMP on your statement

MAILCHIMP *MISC, MAILCHIMP *MONTHLY and plain MAILCHIMP are Intuit Mailchimp, the email newsletter service in Atlanta, Georgia. A paid plan is billed on the same day every month, and the amount follows the number of contacts stored in the account.16 Whoever runs the newsletter for a business, school or club you belong to may have put the plan on your card.

The short answer

Search your email for a Mailchimp receipt: one is sent to the account’s billing contact every time a charge is made.5 To stop the charges, delete the account; a pause only stops billing for 3 or 6 months, then billing starts again by itself.34 Mailchimp’s terms say a monthly plan is not refunded "under any circumstance", though it may refund at its own discretion.1 If nobody you know has an account, go to your bank.

What it looks like on a real statement

Mailchimp’s help pages say what a receipt shows, but not what its charges are called on a card statement.5 The State of Delaware publishes every purchase its employees make on state cards, with the merchant name as the bank received it. When we counted on 5 October 2026, 843 lines had a merchant name starting with MAILCHIMP, from 6 July 2017 to 24 August 2026, from 30 state offices and schools.10

Mailchimp lines in Delaware’s card data, 2017–2026
What the statement said Lines When
MAILCHIMP 367 28 August 2020 to 11 August 2026, still in use, from 18 offices. Amounts from $12.50 to $855, and one charge of $8,863.50
MAILCHIMP *MISC 350 27 August 2019 to 24 August 2026, still in use, from 11 offices. Amounts from $9.99 to $770
MAILCHIMP *MONTHLY 123 6 July 2017 to 6 November 2021, from 5 offices. Amounts from $10 to $420
MAILCHIMP *PAYASYOUG 3 27 September 2017 to 13 December 2018, one office, $100 and $150

Delaware’s data shortens the line to the name. Two other public card statements show the full line as the bank printed it: MAILCHIMP *MISC MAILCHIMP.COM GA on Weber County, Utah’s statement of 27 June 2022, twice at $348.56,11 and MAILCHIMP *MISC ATLANTA GA USA for $87.75 on 13 April 2026 on the Deerfield Public Library’s card, noted as an "E-Newsletter Mailing Monthly Subscription".12 PAYASYOUG is cut off from Pay As You Go, Mailchimp’s prepaid email credits.5

The same plan under different names

Do not take a different name for a different charge. In the Delaware data the name changed on the same monthly plan at the same amount, and each account changed on its own date:10

Other offices have stayed on MAILCHIMP *MISC: the state tourism office’s $45 line still read that way on 24 August 2026.10 So look for the amount and the day of the month, not for last month’s exact wording.

Why the amount went up

Mailchimp’s terms say it may change its fees "at any time" by posting new prices on its site or in the account, or by email.1 In the Delaware data, offices that had nothing to do with each other saw the same plan price go up in the same months, each on its own billing day:10

The same monthly price, raised in the same months, Delaware card data
Who paid Before February 2022 January 2023 December 2023
Public Defender; Laurel School District $9.99 $11 $13 no change
Sussex Montessori School; Gateway Lab School $30.99 $34 $39.50 $45
Kuumba Academy Charter School $52.99 $59 $69 $75
State parks division $420 $460 $680 $770

The monthly amount changed on ten Delaware accounts in February 2022, nine in January 2023 and six in December 2023; in no other month did it change on more than four.10 The parks division’s price also rose in June 2022, from $460 to $580; the data does not say whether that was a price change or more contacts. Its account had been billed since at least July 2017, before Mailchimp’s current plans began on 15 May 2019, and it went from $770 to $855 on 6 May 2026.610

The bill can also go up without any change in price. Mailchimp bills for the highest number of contacts stored during the month, even if the number falls later, and if the account goes over its contact or send limit it adds an "add-on contact block" to the bill instead of stopping the sending.6 Its contacts include people who unsubscribed, unless they are archived.6

Two other shapes in the Delaware data: one office was charged two lines of $16.50 on the same day every month for a year, from July 2023, where it had paid one line of $33 before and after; and the parks division, after paying $855 on 6 June 2026, was charged $8,863.50 on 23 June and then $13 a month.10 The data does not say what either was. Of the 843 lines, not one is a refund.10

Why a charge can come after you cancel

Three things in Mailchimp’s own pages produce a charge after someone believed the plan was over:

Deleting the account is what ends the plan. Mailchimp says you must pay any outstanding balance first.4

What the terms say about refunds

The Terms of Use, updated and effective 10 October 2025, say: "You won’t be entitled to a refund or credit from us under any circumstance on monthly Paid Marketing Plans. However, we may, at our sole discretion, offer a refund, discount or credit." An annual plan has a 60-day money-back guarantee, asked for within 60 days of purchase. Pay As You Go credits "cannot be refunded". Elsewhere the terms say Mailchimp "won’t refund or reimburse you in any situation, except as specifically provided in these Terms".1

Mailchimp’s refund policy page covers two cases only. It does not refund a monthly plan or unused credits on an account closed "due to a compliance issue". And on a chargeback, where your bank reverses a payment, "sending is disabled in your account" until the order is paid again.2 If you are the account holder and need the account, know that before you call the bank. If you never had an account, it does not affect you.

How to find it and stop it

  1. Find the account Search your email, including spam, for "Mailchimp" and the amount: a receipt goes to the billing contact every time a charge is made.5 The billing contact can be someone other than the person who logs in; that address "only receives payment receipts".9 If the card is a work or club card, ask whoever sends the newsletter. Mailchimp closes accounts with no login for 24 months.7 Intuit, which owns Mailchimp, has a charge lookup form: you give the card type, the exact amount and the date, and it looks for charges "billed through one of Intuit’s billing systems". The form’s page lists Mailchimp next to TurboTax, Credit Karma and QuickBooks; we have not tested whether it finds a Mailchimp charge.13
  2. Stop the charges In the account, click the profile icon, choose Account & billing, then Settings, Manage my plan, Delete my account, and confirm with your password and the word DELETE. Deleting cannot be undone and removes the audiences and reports, so back up anything you need first.4 Pausing is on the same page, but billing comes back after the pause.3
  3. Ask for the money back Billing questions go to Mailchimp by email only. Logged in, use Live expert help, then Contact Us; chat and email support come with paid plans.8 Without a login, Mailchimp’s help pages send billing questions to its contact form, which has a Billing topic.27 A refund of a monthly plan is Mailchimp’s choice under its terms, so write down what you sent and when.1
  4. If nobody you know has the account, go to your bank The terms say anyone using a card promises they are authorized to use it.1 If the card was not theirs to use, ask your bank to dispute the charge and ask what its deadline is. It depends on the bank, the card network and the reason, and missing it can end your options. Ask the bank for a new card number too.

Is this a scam?

The name is real: these lines are Mailchimp’s own, and the Delaware data alone has more than eight hundred ordinary monthly charges under them.10 That does not make every such charge wanted. Mailchimp is a service businesses use to send email, so a charge to a personal card that nobody in your household or work set up is someone else’s purchase on your card. Take it to your bank.

Why this page is on a site about held money

This site records payment companies that hold back money that belongs to someone else. Mailchimp is not in the incident record; this page is here so that people searching for a name on a statement find the answer. Other business tools that bill by themselves are CCI*CONSTANT-CONTACT (Constant Contact, another email newsletter service), SMK*SURVEYMONKEY, DNH*GODADDY, CANVA*, DROPBOX* and ADOBE *ADOBE. QuickBooks, from the same parent company, shows up as INTUIT *QBOOKS ONLINE. Other lines are in the table of statement names.
